12/29/08 - Up Black Dome Trail, and down via the escarpment. Could have barebooted up most of the way- lots of dry snowless spots, some packed snow and ice. Every ephemeral stream, brook, creek and puddle was full and running.
The escarpment trail up Blackhead is VERY icy - treacherous. Crampons would be my footwear of choice. Not surprising, I guess due to exposure, etc, but the different between the two sides of the mountain is striking.
Some trail work has been done, but heaps of blowdown at lower elevations. Around the Batavia Kill lean to, it looks like utter destruction. What a mess.
