We were in the area after going Mt Teneriffe and thought it would be a great time to head back to Blue Job Mountain and see what it looked like without snow. We also wanted to get out to Little Blue Job that we had heard about from this forum.
The parking lot was packed when we arrived, so we were quite shocked that we only ran into 6 other people the whole day. We started off on the trail that leads to the right. Between 0.3 and 0.4 mile was the only place we noticed any real elevation change. The hike itself is easy in our option. When we reached the cairn right before the summit, we went right to go and watch some Turkey Vultures flying in the area. We counted a total of 8 of them. After a few minutes we headed up to the fire tower.
This fire tower was #10 for us and is on the NH Fire Lookout Tower Quest and the new NH Fire Tower List. There were other people already here at the tower, so we just climbed to the top and did our video pan and came back down. There used to be an outhouse on the summit and well, technically there still is, but it is on its side. Laughing That’s the third one we have seen knocked over in the last couple of months.
We left the summit for Little Blue Job Mountain on a trail marked with cairns. The trail was easy to follow and before we knew it we were seeing views of LBJ. Right before we started to ascent to the summit we passed by the little pond on the left. The summit of LBJ itself offers 360 degree views and we shared it with only one other person. We spent some time up there taking in the scenery and exploring. There are some rock walls up there that form a pasture that were for the sheep that used to gaze up there.
Leaving the summit, we took a right at the first trail we came to and basically followed that back down to the parking lot. It was a gradual descent and made for a nice loop.
All in all it was a great day to be out and about. We did post a video on YouTube for anyone interested in seeing the hike.
