Trail Conditions: Predominantly dry and in good shape. A few step-over blowdowns on the Bondcliff Trail and a very few easily negotiated small muddy spots here and there - it had rained a couple of days earlier. There were a couple of areas with water running in the trail but you could walk right through it. Crossings were straightforward with no real route-finding required. Long, but not really difficult.
Special Equipment: Street shoes (Reeboks/Nikes) - we packed our boots and changed over after 4.7 miles where the Bondcliff Trail turns left shortly before the dead railroad trestle to save a bit of energy - we'd considered stashing our shoes under the Franconia Brook bridge but ended up just carrying them. We carried, but didn't need, poles. The bug spray stayed home, no problem.
Comments: Spectacular, almost cloudless day. We only saw five other people on the Bondcliff Trail, and had the calm summit to ourselves for an hour-long lunch. This was Shirley's 48th and a perfect finish.
