Last year Lauky and I drove up Brasstown Bald the Georgia High Point. This year we decided to do it right and hike up it. We took the Jack Knob trail which is part of the connector trail from the AT trail to the Georgia high point.
The trail was incredible smooth underfoot. I’m not sure how you wear out shoes in Georgia if this trail is typical as there were almost no rocks at all. It was also very gradual with the use of continuous switchbacks.
We encountered some beautiful flowers including this one which I don’t recognize.
There were also spots where the trail actually tunneled through the Rhododendron.
We went up over Wolfpen Mt. then dropped down over 200 feet to the parking area. Wolfpen would also count as a 4000 footer. There is a two tenth of a mile walk across a huge parking lot then the last half mile climb up to the tower which is paved by the way.
One group had arrived by car just before we got to the parking lot so we were able to get someone to take a picture from the top. At that early hour we were the only ones up there besides the rangers. We spent about a half hour at the top talking with the rangers and taking in the views then headed back.
We made a quick stop at the “Highest general store in Georgia.” Then headed down.
Total Hike 6.5 miles
Elevation gain 2200'
