Mts. Breadloaf and Wilson via Skylight Pond and Long trails August 18, 2013.
Skylight Pond trail has a few muddy spots mostly near the dozen or so small water crossings. The first and largest water crossing is quite shallow - didn't really need to rock hop, just walked over the stones. Several small areas of mud can also be found in the col between Mts. Battell and Breadloaf (LT trail junction) and in the col between Breadloaf and Wilson. Some areas of the trail to the Mt. Wilson summit have eroded.
No special equipment needed.
A small cairn sits behind a tree in the woods just beyond the hairpin turn on Breadloaf. We walked right by a small but artistic cairn marking the true summit of Wilson, thinking the summit was at the junction of an overlook and high point of land just north of that spot. AMC's "Routes to the Hundred Highest" confirmed the true summit is on the hump just south (marked with a small cairn).
Met several section hikers today. The weather was dry and sunny with hazy views.
