Last minute........thinking of Killington tomorrow.

Is Wheelerville Road to the Bucklin Trailhead (maintained/passable) at this time of year?

The drive in this morning was not TOO bad (in my 4 wheel drive Honda CRV, which does not quite have the clearance of a full on pickup/SUV, but a teeny bit better than your average car). The drive out though......was abity hairy. The road got real loose after the days warmth got into it. So bottom line, if anyone is heading down this road any time soon be careful if your in anything less than a pickup truck or SUV.

It wasn't that bad Brian, just a typical Vermont road in mud season. It wasn't even that rutted yet. :)

You forgot to mention about the brook crossing in question. Should we leave everyone in suspense? :D

They do at some point in mud season post Wheelerville Road with a sawhorse at the start signed "Residents Only". I don't know how serious they are about it, and I doubt they ticket for it, but if you were to get stuck you might be there a while...

You can also get to the Bucklin Trailhead coming in the other end of Wheelerville, its much better graded and doesn't rutt up so bad in mud season.
Check your maps for Town Line Rd on the left, about another mile east on 4 heading toward Rutland, VT. You can access Wheelerville Rd from there, and its paved for a good section of the way.

Like MJ said, they do discourage travel on Wheelerville Rd in mud season, but there are many turn offs where you can park along the road. Wheelerville is used by locals for walking/biking/running. Its 3.75 mile walk up to the Bucklin Trail, and its a really scenic walk along the river. A nice way to extend that hike for those looking for more time outside.
