Gave only a cursory glance to trailhead kiosk as I had an appointment in the woods, and had a map from my visit a year or so earlier. The map was detailed with stone walls as well as contours, and after awhile it became apparent that the trail didn't follow the route shown on the map. This was not serious as the [white] trail did make a loop over the summit which had limited NW views. No snow anywhere, hardly any mud. Back at the kiosk, I saw that the posted map did show the trails more accurately. My previous visit turned out to be in 2008 - my how time flies.

The area is posted for no camping and no overnight parking but might be a nice evening hike in hunting season.

For the newer map (revised fall 2009), see http://www.milfordnh.info/conservation/pdf_docs/trail_maps/map_trail_Hitchiner2pgs.pdf

I used to hike Burns Hill on my lunch break when I worked in Milford, must have climbed it 100+ times. I once followed a moose and her calf for about 10 minutes! Cool place but watch out for the poison ivy in the field at the begining of the walk. If you take the old road that goes into the woods past the picnic pavillion, it meets up with the main trail shortly avoiding the field.

Hah! You used to hike in the days of my map :)

Now the blue & white trails both avoid the field, the split is after the old road enters the woods

You're correct, my last hike was in 2008. Time does fly. Guess they gave up trying to kill the poison ivy in the field, they must have sprayed it 4 or 5 times, and it always grew back.
