Thinking about parking at 19 Mile Bk Trailhead then hiking over South Carter and Middle Carter then down the Imp Trail to the point where the Imp is about 0.7 miles from 19 Mile Bk Tr then whacking back to the 19 Mile Bk Trail. The bushwhack will have to include crossing Cowboy Brook. The questions are; does anyone have any experience with this or know of the do-ability?
Thanks
CM

There is a shortcut through Camp Dodge that will save you a bushwack (unless of course you intended to do this 'whack no matter what.)

It requires a real short 1/4 mile (if that) walk on Rt 16. Head up to Camp Dodge by the entrance, keep to the left where the big field is. There is an old logging Road that will connect shortly with the Imp Trail (south). It is a bit easier if you are coming down Imp (south). When the trail starts to sweep northish to parallel Rt 16. just kep an eye out for it.

When coming down S. Imp trail, the trail comes close to Cowboy Brook and tne turns north to parallel the road. We simply turned off the trail a short distance below the turn away from Cowboy Brook and just genrally followed the path of least resistance going downhill (west). The woods are open and the bushwack was easy. You will come out at or near Camp Dodge.

Pretty goof-proof.

There have been one or more threads on the topic in the past--a search should find them.

Yup

As stated, there is a woods road that eliminates the BW and the crossing, I have both done the BW to 19MB with crossing and also a BW on the same side coming out further over at Camp Dodge

Going to leave something else too far in the boonies for anyone to hunt?

My description was from doing it in winter with a moderate amount of snow on the ground.

About 20 yards after turning north look to your right and there are two red ribbons tied to a tree. The ribbons mark where the logging road from Dodge crosses the Imp trail. At the ribbons take a left. This trail is used a lot in the winter and will be broken out. I’ve taking the short cut twice this winter with no problem.

Did the trip you mentioned back in February. Did the short-cut into the back of Camp Dodge. No bushwhacking required & the road walk is even less than a 1/4 mile.

A few years ago also tried it as a bushwhack & ended up in Camp Dodge, just after a lot more work.

You can't miss the junction with the short cut, it looks like a new tractor road for logging.
