Bushwhack trail to Esther???

Just past the view of Esther (back down the highway) on the Whiteface Memorial Highway, I saw what looked to be a ski trail of some kind coming off from the ridge, to the left ,about 1/2 way up to Whiteface's summit. It was pretty beat down when I looked at it a little more closely. Can anyone tell me if this is a bushwhack trail up to Esther or if it is just a ski trail. Thanks in advance.
