trails: york pond trail, bunnell notch trail, kilkenny ridge trail

conditions: york pond road in good shape. snow covered, but little exposed ice and it appears they are keeping parts of it sanded. parking for a couple cars right at the start and plenty more in the hiker lot just down the road. all trails had a good packed snowshoe track. some light drifting low with more substantial drifts above bunnell rock. between the cabin and the summit was more heavily drifted, but this all should be packed out now as a number of people were heading up as i was descending. the small brooks near the start of the hike were all frozen or easily stepped across.

equipment: i wore snowshoes the whole hike.

comments: had fun watching the temperature drop driving north of berlin and it was a -11 start from the parking area. a lack of wind made it tolerable, but by the time i got to the summit i was uncharacteristically cold (feet in particular) so wimped out on breaking trail over to the horn as i had initially planned. a couple other folks i passed going down were thinking about it so it may be broken out now. some nice views from the old tower site and quite pretty in the notch on the descent. great to be out.
