Location
at Madison summit
Trails: York Pond, Bunnell Notch, Kilkenny Ridge, Cabot Spring spur, Unknown Pond Trail for exit.
Bunnell Notch trail: could use some attention as some areas have golden rod and berry bushes head high down low, with clogged drainages after the sharp left turn...a few blowdowns...
Kilkenny Ridge: in pretty good shape with a few blowdowns up to Cabot summit; also in good shape after Cabot, footbed better than I remember (about 8 years ago) over the Bulge and down to Unknown Pond...
Cabot Spring spur: pretty tight with spruce and fir boughs obstructing the trail...guess it ain't too easy for those redliners!!!
Unknown Pond trail: rocky up near the Pond for a distance, a few mud pits here and there, a few obstacle blowdowns, but one can make good time down low as it is flat and brushed better than I remember.

Comments: chilly, windy day, with rime ice starting around Cabot Cabin, to the summit of Cabot, and over the Bulge and near the Horn spur..did not take the Horn spur due to no view...got numerous rime ice showers due to windy conditions..ran into two other guys hiking Kilkenny Ridge over to Starr King parking, hope they had a good day...no fire in the sky today, plenty of smoke on the water at Unknown Pond, and Swiss time is running out!!!
