York Pond road had some icy spots and was snow covered..only room for 2 or 3 at York Pond trailhead and maybe 4-6 at Unknown Pond trailhead, but were plowed out...highest snowbanks I have seen here in a few years...
Trail conditions: no need to break down each trail, all had unpacked powder and snowshoes were needed the whole way...water crossings still bridged or easy step overs...thanks to what looked like a soloer out and back yesterday, there was at least a snowshoe track to follow up to the cabin...after the cabin, there was no track to follow because of heavy drifting, some waist high drifts we busted through...we might have gotten off the trail slightly once or twice, but were able to find a blaze every so often which led us right to the summit sign and new summit area...being familar with the trail in winter conditions was a plus today as Michelle led the way with 3 other pair of eyes looking for those blazes!! So windy today I doubt the track will be totally visible tomorrow, after the cabin...not many views today but new experience for us...good hike with Marianne, Mary, and Michelle who made the long drive today..the snow was so powdery one did not even know they were breaking trail!!!!
