Camel's Hump via Monroe Trail
Date of Hike: Saturday, March 29, 2008
Trail Conditions: Packed powder, ice (above treeline)
Special Equipment Required: Traction of some sort above treeline
Comments:
Winter parking lot had not been plowed after recent snow, but cars were still able to get up to it without much problem.
Monroe Trail well packed all the way to Long Trail junction - I wore my MSRs, but it could have been barebooted (as some did) without postholing.
Traction needed above treeline - alternating between packed powder, snowdrifts, and ice. MSRs were adequate, Stablicers probably wouldn't be though.
Brook crossings are all snowbridged (I assume on top of wood bridges).
4 blowdowns, all easily avoided.
