Trails: Kinsman Ridge Tr.

Conditions: From the Tram parking there was about 6" of unbroken powder over a firm base up until the glades. The glades were well skied and hard packed, which made for some nice footing. At the 90 degree turn, where the glade trail goes straight, up to the view point, the Kinsman Ridge Trail was broken out (but soft) by a couple who had gone up the ski trails and came down the hiking trail, after being told that they weren't allowed on the ski trails. From the view point and across the ridge it was packed hard and flattened by skiers all the way up to the Tram. We didn't take the designated trail up to the Rim Trail, but followed the skiers route. The snow on the trail is 6 ft. deep across the ridge. The blazes are at ground level. Conditions were the best that I've ever seen on Cannon for a winter hike. What a surprise, we expected to be busting out knee deep drifts. We wore snowshoes for the whole hike. A stellar day with blue sky and little to no wind and mild temps. Great day out with Steve Moore.
