I hiked up To Cannon via Lonesome Lake Trail which was very well packed out by a crew of about 30 kids camping at the hut. Above the hut was also pretty well tracked. Kinsman Ridge Trail had 1 set of tracks towards the cannon balls but was still very difficult with knee deep snow. The rest of the way up Cannon was also easy going until I was nearly impailed by a pair of runaway tele skis. I though I was doing this young kid a favor by stopping them, but he and his brother and father were intentionally letting their skiis fly down the mountain while they slid down on their lazy asses. Is this common practice for skiers to let their skis fly, I don't think so?
Anyway rest of the way to summit was smooth. It was very cloudy and windy so I spent about 2 minutes there. I didn't like the idea of going down the packed Lonesome trail so I decided to break trail down the Hi Cannon trail. The snow was deep powder the whole way down, lots of fun accept when I lost the trail because there were no tracks and fell through tree branches up to my waste several times. At least the trail is tracked now so others can more easily find their way to the top by this less traveled winter route. One more week left of winter.
Oh and I picked up two friendly hikers on the way down who missed a turn and ended up on the wrong side of the mountain and gave them a ride back to their car at the Tramway. Hope they made it back in time to pick up thier kids.
