Date of Hike: 4/6/13

Trails: Kinsman Ridge, Fishin' Jimmy, Dodge-Cutoff, Hi-Cannon, Lonesome Lake, Pemi Bike Path

Trail Conditions: Kinsman Ridge Trail from tram parking lot to Hi-Cannon Trail Junction was packed out very well and microspikes were perfect. Kinsman Ridge Trail down to Coppermine Col / Lonesome Lake Trail Junction through the Cannon Balls to Kinsman Junction had a single bare boot track that was drifted over and unbroken in places. Snowshoes are the way to go through here. I stayed on the trail 99% of the time, just a couple of spots through me off track. There are few blowdowns to go around, over, and under here and there but nothing serious. Snow levels are high in spots making for a narrow corridor so watch for branches in your face. From Kinsman Junction over both North and South Kinsman is solid and packed, microspikes were fine. Fishin' Jimmy is the same deal. Dodge Cut-Off has one bare boot choppy track, loses the trail a little but gets to the Hi-Cannon Trail near the junction. Hi-Cannon and Lonesome Lake Trails are highways. Pemi Bike path still has a few inches of snow but it's melting off fast and easy to walk with bare boots or micro's.

Special Equipment: Microspikes and snowshoes

Comments: Incredible day for a hike, winds were whipping but this one was a perfect choice for awesome sites with not much exposure. Views of Franconia Ridge were phenomenal! Only a few other hikers out and about. Saw one of the coolest Golden Retrievers just below the summit of North Kinsman, he knocked me over and licked my face, it was great! :) Report / Pictures
