Trails: Kinsman Ridge Trail, Rim trail
Conditions: trail was well packed out for snowshoes from start to finish. The added snow, although not very deep, has made for a nice solid track. There were two blowdowns, one a minor step over and one a duck under, also minor.
Equipment: I wore snowshoes from trailhead to summit and back only removing them for the summit tower. Conditions were perfect for them. I carried g10 crampons but they stayed on the pack. Warm and sheltered enough to hike in just a long sleeve base layer for the ascent. This is a steep route although snow conditions were not dangerous.
Comments: great day for a snowshoe trip. Got off to a gentleman's start time of about 2 PM, which is not an uncommon event for me. 2 headlamps, etc. The trip up was a steady climb. Walked out about 5 PM and saw on the ride the most beautiful sunset i have probably ever seen. I pulled over in Twin Mountain to stare at deep magenta, oranges, and yellow, but the colors were incredibly deep and rich.
Many side trails near the top are blocked off with orange tape from the ski resort, and with good blazing, it was not hard to follow the trail. I would take care in the area on top of Cannon though as it could be easy to head off in the wrong direction if one was not taking care. #41/48 Solo W48
