From the Berlin NH side, Success Pond Road was very bumpy and potholy and it was a slow ride in and out...parked at the GooseEye/Carlo Trailhead with room for about 6+..3 other vehicles upon return though saw only one other hiker on Carlo Col (GooseEye I'm sure more popular today!!)

Conditions: gravel road snow covered and icy this AM, no snow and softer this PM, one step over huge poplar tree right before GooseEye jct..all brook crossings done easily with stepping from rock to rock, though first one could be tricky with high water..looks like AMC been doing some work on this trail to improve it's soiled reputation-it's a quick way to get up or down to the Mahoousuc and it's not much worse for footing than many other highly popular trails..rock steps and smaller staircases, wooden cribbing, and new drainages, which appear to be not quite done but could be next year..the trail up near the shelter is in the small brook or near it, but today was no issue getting wet..only a couple of step over blowdowns...Mahoosuc to Carlo summit only had two ice flows easily bypassed...nice view from summit area though somewhat restricted by trees......
