Date of Hike: Thur., Mar 8, 2012
Trails: Sawyer River Rd., Signal Ridge Trail.
Conditions: Warm temps, sunshine, soft spring snow. First major crossing snow bridged over. Second crossing had low running water. Easy step across on rocks. One small duck-under on the side hill traverse. We wore snowshoes car to car. A real energy consuming hike today, dealing with the soft snow. We even postholed with snow shoes on in some places. One must stay in the center of the trail. Should be a fast track by this weekend, when it freezes up. From the parking lot we took the trail which follows the river until it connects to the road where the Irene washout was. On the way back we took the road the whole way, which was much better walking. Still a great day to be out with Bill and Diane Schor (Schorman). One other fellow on the trail today.
