trails: sawyer river road, signal ridge trail

conditions: sawyer river road still closed. parked in winter lot. was informed by another hiker that some people were seen casing the parking lot (looking in car windows, etc.) earlier in the morning so be careful to make the interior of your car look unappealing in case they cruise the lot habitually.
sawyer river road was dry and in great shape to the trailhead. other than the remains of the ice bulge about .5 up the trail there was no snow or ice until the long slab along signal ridge. just mostly dry trail. small ice patches and monorail spaced intermittently to the open crest of signal ridge then bare until back in the woods where a more consistent ice/snow monorail continued up to the summit. this too had dry sections interspersed and could generally be avoided. the water crossings were all relatively low and straight forward rock hops.

equipment: i barebooted the whole hike. carried microspikes, but they really weren't necessary as the remaining ice and snow was pretty minimal and could generally be avoided.

comments: nice day for a hike to carrigain. amazing how much snow has disappeared since last weekend. a bit warm, but a cool breeze at times kept things comfortable. a bit hazy, but still some nice views from the summit. good to run into bill out on the trail. great to be out.
