Trail Conditions:
This loop consisted of taking the trails listed below (in the order listed):
_ Bog Brook Trail
_ Wildcat River Trail
_ Carter-Moriah Trail
_ Rainbow Trail
_ Wild River Trail
All the above trails were generally in good condition. The Rainbow Trail and the Carter-Moriah portion of this loop were in particularly good condition.
Both the Wildcat River Trail and the Wild River Trail could use some work in terms of adding/repairing some bog bridges. There were several deep “boot-sucking” muddy spots.
The multiple brook crossings at the beginning of the Bog Brook Trail were doable. However, they were not just a “hop skip & a jump”! Anyone unaccustomed to brook crossings might find them a bit of a challenge. So, to avoid the crossings, there’s always the alternative of taking the gravel logging road (FR 233) to the point where the Bog Brook Trail intersects it.
