Date of Hike: Tue. Dec. 7, 2010
Trails: 19 Mile Brook Tr., Carter Dome Tr., Carter Moriah Tr., N. Carter Tr., Imp Tr., Joe Dodge cutoff.
About 1" of snow with some ice on 19 Mile Brook Tr. to the jct. of the N. Carter Tr. North Carter Trail had about 2" of snow and ice to Zeta Pass. C-M trail to the Dome had about 4" of snow. The ridge over the peaks had about 4" of snow and ice. Lots of trees with ice balls leaning into the trail. We had to duck, crawl, and push them aside. Very energy consuming. North Carter trail and Imp Trail were snow covered with lots of boney rocks. One monster bushwhack around blow down on the Imp Trail (south branch) laying lengthwise in the trail.
We carried snowshoes, but used spikes the whole day.
It turned out to be a nice day. Some snow flurries in the morning and sunshine in the afternoon with very little wind. We didn't see anyone else today. Thanks to Bill and Bruce for helping me out today.
