Hiked the Carters and Mt. Hight Sunday, May 16. 19 Mile Brook Trail completely dry (brook was a raging river, though). Some snow on Carter Dome Trail to Zeta Pass- both water crossings manageable. At Zeta, snow shoes were helpful to South and Middle Carter, though last half mile to Middle Carter was mostly dry. Blow downs are worst I've ever seen and the trail could be difficult to follow for some because of this. Many were cut down but they litter the trail everywhere. Carter Dome trail from Zeta to the Dome was surprisingly difficult due to double fall line eroding and the loads of blow downs everywhere. Hight was magnificent- great views, roaring winds and sun- much easier navigating to the Dome via Hight than the direct trail from Zeta.
