Sunday, after crashing at the A-usable Inn, our plan was to go to Cascade/Porter. However, having hiked the Cascare-Porter traverse with HarryK 2 years ago, I thought I'd just go do Cascade and go test out my sled. Knowing that since Whiteface/Ester was completely crampon-able, none of us even brought snowshoes and crampons or microspikes were the name of the game. From Cascade Lake, we made our way up the stream crossings and up to Cascade and based on other reports I read before I left, we barebooted the rocky summit of cascade because it was mostly ice-free. Great great views were had and it was just a beautiful quiet, non-windy day to reflect on things good and bad.

In respect of a lost friend:

Yeah, a bunch of us ate breakfast sunday morning at Cedar Run and then left to go do Cascade by the lake. Sunday was probably the best winter hiking day so far, most of my winter peaks have been somewhat overcast..warm but overcast.

After the Big Slide hike, we stopped at Cedar Run also. Good choices, however, they did burn my omelet this past Saturday. Probably just a fluke. It is nice to have a spot in Keene and not just Keene Valley (Noonmark) or Lake Placid. I wish them success.

Did we just hijack Jay's thread?

Hi Jay - you had a busy weekend. Sounds like you had some good hikes. I'll be up there the next couple of weeks. What are your plans......

Jay, sorry we took all the goodies - a glove, a shredded scarf and a broken snowshoe - from the trail on Thursday! But we at least cleared the countless birches branches Wednesday' winds had tossed around.
