Looking for a very challenging hike? Try the new slide up cascade. It starts t the lake, a short herd path to the start of the slide, then up the slide to a waterfall (unstable to climb) so bushwhack up the left side to the top of the falls. Then back on the slide heading to the right. This year there is substantial loose material on the slide, so if you are uncomfortable, head into the woods on the right and bushwhack again. The top of the slide is very steep so when you are above the head wall, straight up through about 150 yards of balsom. You will reach the base of the rock that forms the top of Cascade. Scrunge around to find a way up it. This is about 2000 ft gain in a mile. You can look back down the slide and see the starting place: cool.

Then over to Porter, down Porter ridge following the March field trail. The drop of Porter ridge to the top of Blueberry is very steep, eroded, lots of roots and small rocks but someone had cleared the big stuff. This is about 2200 down from the top of Porter. Then over Blueberry for another 22/2300 ft drop to Marcy Field.

The hike is 6.5 miles, 2250 elevation gain, and 4800 elevation loss. Not a walk for the beginner nor a solo hike.
