Today I skied a little round trip on Section 3 of the Catamount Trail, right from Rt. 9 (in southern Vermont) northbound. It was a fine day in the woods.
I was breaking trail for much of the way, so I fell short of being able to complete the section round trip before I turned around and skied back, making around 8 miles total.
The trail through here uses forest roads, railroad grade, and some nice up-downs on skinny trail to work its way north along the East Branch of the Deerfield River.
I saw some great animal tracks down on the river shallows. It was basically a mini sled track with 2 prints every few feet for propulsion. Otters, I imagine.
Hey, if anyone would like to ski a northbound section with me sometime, please do write. I would have loved to have been able to continue on and finish the section today, had I not been solo and needing to return to my car.
