Left from the Piper trailhead. Took Piper, Nickerson Ledge, Carter Ledge, Middle Sister and Piper up and Piper down.

All the trails were very dry today. There was no snow or ice until we reached the Middle Sister trail which which has a stretch of ice that could be pretty well avoided. There was also some ice on Piper in the sag just before the open ledges on Chocorua. That ice there was not that steep and had enough debris on it making it possible to bareboot with care over it.

The upper ledges of the Carter Ledge trail are the equal of the Whiteface ledges. There is one ledge a short ways below the Middle Sister trail which if wet I don't think I would even attempt. To lose traction there could be very serious. Fortunately, today, the traction was very good.

It was a pristine day today with outstanding views and a gentle wind on the top of Chocorua.

The trails were all in good condition with only one or two blowdowns on Piper.

We stopped by camp Penacook on the way back down and found the geocache that's hidden near there. I love that place. I always hate to leave.

If you're hiking Chcorua on the trails mentioned, it would be good to bring some water along, the trails are quite dry.

Elevation gain: about 3300'
