Trail Conditions: Trail conditions were excellent as always. Small amount of ice on the upper portion of Falling Waters Trail. Some spots of ice on the mid-to-high areas of Bridle Path and a small amount on the upper cone of Lafayette. All easily avoided by rock-hopping.
Special Equipment Required: Brought microspikes but never needed them. Hat, gloves, warm coat essential on top. Trek poles very helpful around the ice.
Comments: I decided to post this in case anyone is considering making a run along the ridge this week (Wed or Thurs) during this period of great weather we are having. I took the FW trail up and the BP down, just to get the wet and slippery part out of the way first. Some of the rocks in the shade on the water crossings are icy, otherwise, the trails are fairly clear on the lower ends. On the upper slopes, the ice is here and there, but is easily avoided, so no traction or special equipment is really needed at this time. I was in a t-shirt for most of the trip except for the summits, where bundling up with a warm coat, hat, and gloves was a must. Had most of the mountains completely to myself, unlike the busy days of summer. Great rime ice formations on the top of Lafayette, too! Highly recommended.
