perhaps you remember that the state of NH purchased 25,000 acres in Pittsburg NH (way up near Canada) and purchased a conservation easement on another 175,000 or so.

It appears as though the state and the landowner (Lyme Timber, I think) are revisiting allowed uses, under public pressure to grant recreational access to more of it.

There's a public comment period which ends Nov 30...

One option not mentioned is allowing winter use of plowed roads, as was the case before the state bought the property. Climbing the W3k is harder walking from US-3.
