Trails: Calkins Brook to Colden Dam, along the Opalescent to Uphill Brook Lean-to; herd trail to top.
Trail conditions: Dusting of snow down low, two inches on the trail and on top. Ground is hardly frozen and the trail was quite muddy. Ice on trail here and there after Colden Dam. Herd trail easy to follow. The steep sections of the trail had mix of ice/snow/water and were reasonably challenging.
Equipment: Microspikes used from the beginning of the steep parts on Cliff to the top and down to Colden Dam.
Saw about a dozen folks on the trail headed to Redfield, Marcy, Colden and Cliff. The herd trail from Uphill Brook starts off as a muddy mess. The cool nights have done very little to firm things up. Stayed cloudy most of the day. Clear peek-a-boo views of Algonquin, Colden, Marcy, Gray, Skylight, and Redfield. That trail along the Opalescent River is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. A great day to be in the woods.
#41/46 for me. Slowly closing in on the 46. #109 on the 115 list. Looks like 2015 will be my year for both lists.
