Packed in from Upper Works to Uphill leanto. Snowshoes the whole way. Streams are not all frozen, making some crossings tricky.
Broke trail to cliff.
Clear trails to 4 corners and skylight. Marcy was windswept down to ice. We all switched to crampons.
Bushwacked from Marcy to Gray. Worked out perfectly. The snow was hard enough that spruce traps were not a problem.
We couldn't find the trail down gray. We meandered down through the thick scrub, coming to a few cliffs that were not too hard to skirt. Eventually, we popped out onto the trail down to Uphill leanto. A welcome site. Our tracks will get you to the gray summit, but perhaps not the best route.
