This doesn't come as a surprise, since as the article points out, Mammut bought the company for its distribution network. The writing on the wall was when they closed down the Shelburne Road store a couple years ago.

A sign of what a fine periodical it is, the Free Press wasn't aware of the closing until Friday, despite the fact that the Cherry Street store is only a block away and the general public has known about this for at least a month.

It's owned by Gannett. Many regard the Freeps in the same category as USA Today.

OTH, if it's reported there at least it probably happened.

"Probably" being the key word. Fortunately, Burlington has Seven Days.

I loved the Shelburne Store

That place was great, and it was on the way to visiting my mother in the Adirondacks. So if I was late for the ferry and had some time to burn, you know how I spent my time and money. In fact, I'm wearing one of their shirts at this moment; I got it at one of their sales.

Alas!

I was in Burlington VT this weekend and passed by the store. Indeed it is closed. At least the Outdoor Gear Exchange on Cherry street is alive and well.
