Great day to be out in the woods! Lake rd. to Gill Brook shortcut trail was slick for skiing (before last night's snow) and the way out was quick (read: unable to slow down even with metal edges). Great snow all the way from lake road to summits of Colvin and Blake. Premiere butt sliding down to col from both sides and down Colvin to Elk Pass junction. Only snow shoes needed that day (crampons and ice axe were brought for ballast and to make creeping under blowdown more interesting). Poles were generally difficult to use as the snow out of the main track was soft and bottomless. I found them useful up the steep sections if placed in packed trail. Ceiling just above 4000 ft most of the day kept the views from being great.
