I was given the wrong date for the closure when Elk Lake Lodge replied to my question. On Monday, my "last chance" to climb Macomb via the slide, I was curious as to whether the closure started Tuesday morning or night.
I stopped at the gate house and talked to a ranger there. He said the date is actually the 17th. I went down to the office and someone in the Elk Lake office called someone to ask about the actual date. They confirmed Tuesday the 17th. The closure starts in the morning. If someone is in there overnight on Monday night, I don't think they'll be hassled when they walk out Tues. AM, but they need to have their vehicle parked at the gate.
I think a DEC site says it closes 10/16. If so, what they should have said is that the 16th is the last day of hiking on that easement.
This is posted as a new thread because nobody is going to re-read the original for one reply.
