Has anyone hiked in to Couchsachraga or Allen in the last week or so? I'm contemplating doing so late next week (Friday April 29th) and am curious about trail conditions. I note there have been no write-ups on these peaks since mid-March... is there a message there I wonder? Any and all information greatly appreciated. Cheers!

Allen!!!?

Hi Chrysdale, :)

We hiked Allen April 10 and today April 22, It was not very muddy, but You need to know We stay with a lot of snow and ice over Allen brook. Today I used my snowshoes, probabely it was must easy to use crampons.

With all the rain in the forecast for the next week, may be the challenge will be to cross the brook, this morning all the rocks were very icy, but around 300 feet over the usual place to cross this brook You have a old cedar made a natural bridge, if You feel confortable to made a atttemp to a circus!!!

Without snow before this place, but after the hard snow condition with deep between 1 to 3 feet specialy where the sun go very few time by day.

Have a good hike. :)

Crysdale, the only thing I can tell you is that last Aug. when I did Couch, the Bradley Pond trail was horrendous. I can't imagine it's even that good this time of year! Expect to see Kenny and Vic from "Most Extreme Challenge" taping a show there.
Allen I would ASSume is decent, although there will probably be some moving water on the slide, which is slippery enough in dry weather. Just be careful, and have fun!

Allen slide

I just wanted to emphasize what Masshysteria said about the side on Allen. The red slime on the rocks is slick in the middle of July. Hikers beware if you attempt this climb in wet/ icy conditions. You may think we are overstating the risk, but I’m sure others can testify to this condition… You have been warned!!!!!
