I checked it out via googling the topic. I would imagine a rabid anything is going to be dangerous. I passed a racoon by the side of the road last week while jogging, gave it a very wide berth by going to the opposite shoulder. It was engrossed in it meal (road kill) hence the chances of me of surprising it (never good) were high if I did not give it some space. Sure enough it acted surprised when it finally noticed me and gave me a sideways look. It was not rabid, but better safe then sorry. Cheers.

Fair enough. I am also basing that statement (agree it is an estimate, not conclusive) on the fact that it did not charge me and tear me a new one ... It was barely 2-3 feet off the road enjoying its meal, I was jogging on the far side, only 2 lanes away. It looked like it was giving it serious thought though.
