On my hike to Mt. Lafayette yesterday (20-August), I noticed a very prominent slide nearly opposite the point where the Greenleaf Trail traverses the point known as Eagle Pass. I’m just curious if this slide has been here for quite awhile, or if it’s relatively recent?

I don’t recall having seen this slide before. But then again, it’s been quite awhile since I’ve been on this section of the Greenleaf Trail, and my recall is sometimes less than perfect!

I hiked the Greenleaf Trail on October 15, 2008 and didn't seem to notice it then. I did notice it on August 8, 2009.

Probably came down night of July28/29, when the area received 3 inches of rain. John Hansen from PVSART sent me photos from his hike through around 1 pm on the 29th, although I do not know anyone who hiked through on the 28th when it might have not been there.

They're all headed to the sea "sometime" -- "Climb 'em if you got 'em!" ;)

(Maybe Mallory was thinking more geomorphologically than we recognize, with his famous riposte??? Notice that it was not followed by, "I'll come back next year if I don't bag it this time." Hmmmm.)
