Interesting link. I think the one that surprised me the most was the couple skiing who "declined" following their tracks back or to the road becuse they were tired and had no lights. Next in line was the cat and mouse chase between sons and dad.

(Does the DEC charge for rescues?)

If you read ADKHPs, there is a DEC volunteer who says that the sons were told at some point to descend.

The DEC does not seem to charge for rescues, at least they do not talk about it. No one on ADKHPs has mentioned this, to my knowledge.

They do write tickets and turn people back for being w/o snowshoes! :D

Now what happens if you are rescued in an area covered by more than 8 inches of snow and you do not have snowshoes with you?

Too funny. Folks love to laud law enforcement when it's out saving people's lives, but quickly fall back into that awkward uneasiness when enforcement of petty violations is on the table. :p

there was one day in particular (feb 25?) where the same officers were out on several calls --kudos to them -- considering all that they carry in order to safely locate/rescue - that must have been one hell of a day.
