I'm looking to buy the sd800 or 850 before my trip to Seattle but am concerned about durabilty, which is a complaint I've read about. Camera's no good if it's busted. My old Olympus Camedia has been dropped on the rocks on Liberty as well as on a dance floor at a wedding and simply bounced and kept clicking, so I'm spoiled.

I saw this Delkin Devices skin at B&H and was wondering if anyone has any experience with these or other protective cases. Thanks.

I have one for my SD800 and love it. I keep my camera in the skin and just toss it an outside pocket on my jacket while skiing or hiking. I think Tim Seaver uses one as well.

Man-o-man, what I would have done for one of these several cameras ago. If it isn't surgically attached, I'm dropping it - usually I get away with it the first time, but definitely not the third.

How easy is it to manipulate buttons under the skin? I haven't really paid attention to placement of controls from camera to camera - how universal are camera controls these days?

I'm sure you have to buy the correct skin for the camera involved. This was listed at B&H as an accessory for the camera I was looking at.

Dave, I assume you can turn the camera on and off and change the settings while using the skin ?

Yes, I leave the skin on all the time, and I can still operate all the buttons even with gloves on. It's very much tailored to the specific camera model; you couldn't easily use this for a different camera.
