Hi to all of you who were my neighbors for this weekend. (ALG, ERD, KZ) I just wanted to appologize for creating the post hole deadend bushwhack down from Macomb on the North side. We were somewhat unprepared, and turned back after a few minutes of exhaustion. I see that you all found your destination, and for that I am glad.
Couple of things to note. We did some investigation into a bushwhack up Nippletop. There is a new slide on the eastern face, and I believe there is a stream bed that leads from below hunters pass all the way up to the slide. From Dix, we were able to do some recon, and think might be a fun trip for next year. There certainly is a "need" for some kind of link between nippletop and Dix, because there seems to be no otherway to get over to the Ausables, short of hiking back to 73. Perhaps a new bushwhack could be explored. I will post some pictures of the route when I have the time.
Also, Why did everyone choose the dix range for this weekend? Seems odd that most of the trail condition posts are in this area. I chose it because it seemed fun to do some early season bushwhacking, and the range was yet to be explored by me. Also, I figured early spring would be a good time, with easy to find water, and less underbrush growing.
