Hi Winter hiker,

The story start with a philosophie: Nothing is impossible if You do not catch your goal come back later....the successful will be for a other day.

Friday morning We started from Clear pond, (Elk Road) with a plan to go for Macomb and Carson(South-Dix).

We are the first in this area after the hunting season, 3" of dry snow on the road and same condition before the first lean-too. This part was a little slepery snow cover the ice, We made a couple of stange dance moves!!! :D

Without trouble to stay in the new Macom path, blowdown in the trail and a little bite more in the new path.

The slide was cover by different deep snow, and We stay in the side to conturn the icy place. We arrived in the Macomb summit in the cloud and under snowing condition.

The trouble started at this time, I serch for my map in the usual pocket, but I changed my Jacket since last hike and never move the map!!!

Ok! by memory The Dix Range made a inverse T, and if Grace (East-Dix0 have this name it was because I suppose it is in East.

I put 90 degres in my compass and after I stay for a short part in the usual path, We go for bushike. To made a short story, after 3 attempt We changed the bearing with lest 5 degres each time, We need to accept Carson stay a other day alone!!!!

Junior can not help me it had the flu and his nose was out of service, and the tree refused to help him because in never recognizing his voice!!!! He was realy grumpy of this situation!!!

We returned out without trouble.

I gived the Saturday off for Junior to find his health...and very early We return on the crime scene Sunday morning. ;)

Nice surprise, 6 people signed Saturday to Macomb-Carson-Grace with traverse to 73 road. We hope they make this plan because We saw the tracks go in the wood and never come back.
The Macomb slide was blowing by the wind and It was difficult to stay in the people tacks. Tank You at this group for your tracks to Carson, Yes You never hiked in the usual path but the must impotant You catched the Carson summit, a beter appoach to Grace. :)

After this easy hike, when We was in Carson summit We put the snowshoes on and start to Hough. It wax a good move the snow, specialy in the Hough ridge was 12" to 18" deep.
We stay with the snowshoes to come back to Carson, to go up Macomb and down the slide and We remove only in the road.
Near the Macomb summit, halhway to the slide We meet Meo in a god cie (his girlfriend and other nice girl) I think They were happy to hike in the rabbit tracks.

After this nice day in this area the nex ennemies were Panther and Couche for Monday.

Other nice surprise snowshoes tracks from the road, 2 peoples signed to Santanoni and Panther the day before. Thank You for your perfect snowshoes tracks from the parking to the starting point of the Panther brook. At this place the peoples turned around....

Step by step We up the path in 12" dry snow without base and every step was a surprise: root, rock or water, We arrived at Time Square and We need to used the compass to go in Panther summit.

Slowly by slowly We stay in the usual path to Couche, We need to stay very allert to never lose the path, We was in the cloud and fortunately the Junior memory was perfect to recognize evry time when I had a doubt.

Very tire We arrived at the car when the night close the day. It was a great weeken chalenge....

If You will go in the Junior tracks please use snowshoes....

Have a great preparation for your winter goal...

I guess it can happen to the best of us! Wise choice to bail and start over the next day.

You can bet I'll be wearing my snowshoes this winter PINPIN! :D
