(lol, this place is going to need a dog beta section! :D )

I'm planning a 3/4 day hike on the Long Trail and we'd like to go over Ellen and Abraham. The trail descriptions mention ladders and we saw somehting about water being scarce.

Are they doable with fit, experienced dogs? Are there ways around the ladders?

Abe - Ellen

The only ladders are on the section of the Long Trail from Stark's Nest at the top of Mad River Glen to Rt. 17 at Appalachian Gap, and I doubt they would be any problem for a fit dog to circumnavigate. They'll figure it out just fine.
Enjoy!

Geneva did that same section as a backpack when she was less than a year old.

She had absolutely no problems.

Have fun and enjoy your trip!

Many years ago we had a dog that hiked the entire Long Trail in sections and had no problems

That is not to say that unfit or clumsy dogs could do it, or that ill-behaved dogs should be brought :)
