The gate is now locked. Two of us traveled in via Calkins Brook and out off Seward's north side to Ward Brook. Two others did the same hike the day before. The trail is easy to follow. There is no ice. The road to the summer lot can be walked without spikes. Snowshoes are helpful elsewhere and needed at higher elevations. In following the path of the two prior hikers we went down the stream bed most of the way off Seward. In retrospect staying with the herd path would have been preferable.
