as the post from damesfly stated, this hike has lots of confusing info out there. the hike is preety cut and dry and following the trail has no issues. from manchester, took rt 30 north to dorset. about 2 miles north from country store, took right on dorset hollow rd. follow that until you get to the upper and lower hollow rd split, we went right but eventually both roads join up again in a couple miles. when roads rejoin, it becomes tower road. continue on tower rd until it turns into a jeep path.. park off to the side. if you have 4 wheel drive, you might make it another .1 mile.
hike in on path for 20 minutes and you will come to a road wash out. look for carin on the other side of washout. new trail follows left side of washout for about 300 yards, then rejoins. when you see the old cabin, stay on the trail that goes to the right of it. at 3200 ft, and a height of land, you will come to a t in the trail. go right.
in 10 minutes hiking, you will see a path on the right. this goes to the old tower. we opted not to take that trail. rather, we continued for an additional 10 minutes until we came to a second path on the right. we took this path uphill until we got to the ridge trail intersection. left brings you to the summit and the canister.. if you are heading up, bring a pencil to keep in the canister and possibly a new zip lock bag. we only had a pen and was afraid to leave it in the cnaister through the winter.
up 2.15 hrs, down 1.55 hrs.
no views. just rain, fog and wind. also went to north overlook, but all the same there. beautiful foliage in valley. warmed up with green mt coffee and homemade soup at the dorset country store after. bumped into just 2 other hikers. lots of leaves down from rain. a bit slipery coming down
