Trails: Dorset Peak
Date of Hike: 2/4/08
Trail Conditions: Light dusting of snow over crusty base. At higher elevations, I broke through the crust to about 3 inches of snow underneath. At lower elevations I didn't break through as much. From the junction with the old road from Danby Four Corners, snowmobiles had gone through up to the middle peak and halfway to the summit. I looped around over the summit to descend via the old road on the north slope of the mountain, which had no recent snowmobile tracks.
Special Equipment Required: I used stabilicers but probably you could get by without them. Snowshoes unnecessary.
Comments: Snow and ice on the trees was really pretty in the sunlight. A very pleasant hike.
