After doing Scar Ridge, I really wanted to wrap this thing up before the snow started to fly. I looked at my calendar and saw that November is pretty well booked up so I had to do it on the 25th. Of course, I discovered that on Tuesday, so there wasn't much time to put a plan together.

I headed up to GRR Friday night to camp and that went well enough. In the morning I took my tent down for fear of the rain that would be coming and headed up toward Jay, VT. I stopped for a great breakfast along the way and reached to LT crossing around 10a.

I soon passed the Atlas shelter and not long after that began to feel some sprinkles. I was afraid that the rain which wasn't forecasted to start until 2p was going to come early. Fortunately, it held off for a while. I reached the summit of Jay, which had been socked in when I passed by here while doing the LT, and I finally got the views and they were great. It was to get these views that I decided to finish on Big Jay so I was very glad that it was clear enough. The lodge was closed and that was disappointing, but not unexpected.

Continuing on, I passed through the fence and was soon on my way to Big Jay. Along the way I learned why this has a reputation for being a muddy hike. It's still a mess only it had a paper-thin coat of ice on some of it. The going wasn't too bad though between the mud and blowdowns. Eventually I reached the summit. I was disappointed to see that yet another cannister had been stolen. Fortunately there was a glass jar in its place. There were only a few scraps of paper in there and they were all pretty much full, so I donated a mini-notebook to be the new log and issued a warning which will appear as my new avatar once I upload my pics.

The fog was coming it think now and it was windy and a bit cold. Still, I relaxed with a brew and a smoke and savored the joy of completing the New England Hundred Highest. Hiking down I meta very cool chick who, though she looked to be in her 30s told me she had recently retired after being a machinist for 15 years. We had a nice chat and then I hit the road.

Stopping in Lincoln, I chatted with Steve Smith before meeting up with Marc Howes and whichway for celebratory beers. Good times with good friends. A big thanks to Marty, Marc, Eric, Gator, Chickpea, Onestep, Mary, Becky, Tom, Earl, and everyone else who's shared some of the adventures along the way. Bushwack Bill, I still miss you. You continue to inspire me!

I'll be posting pics (relatively) soon.

Ross,
way to go! :D

Glad to have had the opportunity to join you in your #'s 98 and 99.

Best of luck to you in all your future lists and other such pursuits in life.

Best regards,
Marty

congrats dude - my last weekend was a charlie foxtrot on plans and last minute ended up backpacking in the mahossucs. At one point was thinking of meeting you at gale river, but backpacking sounded better to me. :D

Congratulations Ross (and I hope you get your camera back, cool story!)

now, you can also take a Double Bow (although I don't think that is the intended meaning of your username, but it fits! :p)

Congratulations. What a wealth of pleasure and knowledge to have covered such varied trails over a period of time.

After doing Scar Ridge, I really wanted to wrap this thing up before the snow started to fly.

I know the feeling. There are hikes you know you could get done in the winter, but you just want to get them done and make them yours and you feel the weather pressing in on you so you charge ahead full speed. Well you made it and you can claim it. Cheers.!!!:)
