Just got a sad e mail from the owner of my camp near the Berkshires (copake ny), a 22 y/o guy went out drinking and kayaking late Tues night, sad ending.....flipped over with no pfd.....he drowned......I worked with this guy for 3 summers, great guy, really bad decision......he was tall, strong and a great tennis player, but it goes to show that the freezing water kills.....maybe the drinking contributed who knows......but right now app 600-700 kids from my camp are getting a sad lesson in life.....please be careful.....I don't know the link, just google it...

Wow, that's a terrible story. It's really sad... maybe young (and old) people can learn from this. Condolences to his family.

Yes, sorry to hear the news. That has got to be so hard to deal with for his friends and family especially right now, on what would normally be a more joyous time.

It's a tough one for sure.

Rik, they probably went out with a camp owned kayak and launched on camp property....The camp is actually having a winter reunion this weekend and I don't want to bring up the subject.....I do know that during the summer I had to ask permission from the lifeguards to go out in my own kayak to go for a paddle..plus you need to wear a pfd.......kids are watching so i want to set a good example....no one can go in a boat unless the lifeguards are on duty....
