Durango or Yosemite?

Yosemite. The place is so beautiful that slick advertising pictures can't make it any prettier than it really is. I didn't think it would be so nice but it is iconic. The crowded atmosphere is too bad, but just think of it as a part of the experience. And sure, as others have suggested, you don't have to spend all your time in the valley.

I'm a sucker for road trips so in part to visit a family member and pick up her car to use, and partly to road trip by the Grand Canyon we are going:

PWM to PHX
Drive to Durango via 2-day side trip to Grand Canyon
In and around Durango - choo-choo trains, 14ers, fishing, biking, repeat
Road trip back to PHX
PHX to PWM

A little bit out of the way, but if you can make it to Page, Arizona, there's Horseshoe Bend (one of the best views in the entire country), as well as Buckskin Gulch. The Wave's there also, but you'd probably have to try for a couple days to win the permit lottery.
