Trail Conditions: Walking along the stream till the lean-to you'll find some ice under snow, significant wetness/mushy leaves under some crusty snow, and stream crossings running pretty high and some of the stepping stones under a couple of inches of water. Beyond the lean-to going is easier with a few patches of ice but mostly a few inches of crusty snow.
Special Equipment Required: Crampons - overkill, although some traction aid required especially while descending. Waterproof boots - required for stream crossing and trail up to lean-to was often wet. Gaiters, and poles - useful generally and specifically for stream crossings.
Comments: If you're not comfortable stream crossing/rock hopping you probably won't enjoy the start of this hike till conditions are a little drier. Another hiker this day came in from Seager and went to Big Indian and Fir. Light snow falling throughout the day probably obscured tracks. Note Todd Mtn Road (unmaintained in winter) impassable due to extremely icy conditions.
