Hi Everyone,

I've taken a bit of a hiatus from hiking these days due to a busy schedule (grad school, first baby on the way, etc.). My classes this term just ended so I took the opportunity to shoot over to Pawtuckaway State Park and get an early morning hike in up to the Middle peak, which is the only one I hadn't been up to yet.

It was cold (22deg, but felt like 12deg with wind) and early (started out before 6am). No one else on the trail made for a great morning to clear my head. Lots of good stone walls, frozen lakes and still plenty of snow on the trail. Pretty good views to the South/Southeast.

If you have the time, please check out my full, detailed report and pictures at my blog:

Thanks,
Karl

Thanks for posting this Karl!

Although this might not have been like a hike in the White Mountains, it was still hiking! Regardless of location, it's always great to be outdoors and enjoying nature.

And here's yet another "positive"!! Judging from some of your photos, I think it's possibly safe to say that you'll be enjoying the Spring flowers much sooner than us folks up here above the notches!;):)

I enjoyed your post too. We're camping in Pawtuckaway this summer with a bunch of toddlers. I picked the site knowing there was hiking to be had though I've never been there before. It looks and sounds great from your blog. Congrats on your first on the way baby. Ours just turned two.

Hey John - I can't wait for this wildflowers to make it out. I think we'll have some here in southern NH by the end of April. I actually saw some Hepatica last April in Pawtuckaway.

Hi Early Bird - Thanks very much. I'm getting very excited for a little one to get here. I'm excited to have another hiking companion...once she gets older of course :). Pawtuckaway should be great for camping with some toddlers. It has three peaks (I think the south peak is the best, since it has the fire tower) and a great boulder field. It can get crowded at times, but what trail area doesn't during nice weather? I hope you enjoy your stay there!
